Due to Loei's year-round cool climate, the northern province is an ideal location for growing grapes. It is also home to Chateau de Loei, a pioneer in the Thai wine-making industry. Chateau de Loei was founded by the Karnasutra family of the Italian-Thai construction group in the early 1990s. The vineyard and winery in Phu Rua district is a popular tour destination for those with an interest in the art and science of wine-making.
